How it works

Walmart's referral fee is charged on the total sales price — not just the item price — so the shipping you charge the buyer is part of the fee base:

Total sales price = item price + shipping charged to buyer
Referral fee = category rate × total sales price
Profit (seller-fulfilled) = total sales price − referral fee − item cost − your shipping cost − packaging
Profit (WFS) = total sales price − referral fee − WFS fulfillment − WFS storage − item cost − packaging

Flat categories charge a single rate on the whole total sales price. Band categories charge one rate on the whole total — the rate of the price band the total falls in, not a blended rate. Portion categories split the total at a threshold, charging one rate on the portion up to the threshold and a different rate on the portion above it.

If you use WFS, Walmart bills by billable (shipping) weight: under 1 lb the unit weight alone is used; at 1 lb and above the greater of unit weight and dimensional weight (length × width × height in inches ÷ 139) is used, 0.25 lb of packaging is added either way, and the result is rounded up to the next pound. Surcharges can apply for apparel, hazardous materials, items priced under $10, and oversize items, and items over 150 lb are priced as Big & Bulky with no surcharges. Storage is charged per cubic foot per month on the item's volume (length × width × height ÷ 1,728), at the rate for the storage period you select.

Frequently asked questions

How much does Walmart charge sellers?

Walmart Marketplace charges a referral fee on each sale, and the rate depends on the category — from 6% for Personal Computers up to 20% on the first portion of a Jewelry & Precious Metals sale. Most everyday categories, including Home, Kitchen, Decor & Garden, Toys & Games and Books, are 15%. The rates in this calculator come from Walmart's official referral fee schedule for contract categories, verified Oct 2026.

What is the Walmart referral fee charged on?

The referral fee is charged on the total sales price — the item price plus the shipping, handling, gift wrap and other charges the buyer pays. This calculator uses item price + shipping charged as the total sales price, so any shipping you charge the buyer is included in the fee base.

How much does Walmart Fulfillment Services (WFS) cost?

WFS fulfillment starts at $3.45 per unit at a billable weight of 1 lb or less and rises by billable-weight tier — $4.95 at 2 lb, for example — plus any surcharges for apparel, hazardous materials, items priced under $10, and oversize items. Storage is charged separately, from $0.75 per cubic foot per month for January–September, with higher rates for peak and aged inventory. This calculator reads the tier table, surcharges and storage periods from Walmart's official WFS fees page.

Does Walmart charge a monthly fee or a listing fee?

No. Walmart's official fee schedule lists only a per-sale referral fee and, if you choose to use it, the optional WFS fulfillment and storage fees. There is no monthly subscription fee and no listing fee in that schedule.

How we calculate & limitations

Worked example: A $34.99 item in Home, Kitchen, Decor & Garden with free shipping: total sales price $34.99 → referral fee $5.25 (15%). With $14.00 item cost, $5.50 shipping and $0.75 packaging, profit is $9.49. WFS example: a 1.2 lb toy at 8×6×4 in has a billable weight of 2 lb → fulfillment fee $4.95, and one month of storage is $0.08.

Assumptions & limitations: Handling and gift-wrap charges are part of the official referral-fee base but are not separate inputs here, so the calculator's base is item price + shipping charged only. The Collectibles exception — 2.35% on the portion above $2,500 for trading cards, trading card games, comics, coins, autographed collectibles and collectible ephemera — is not modelled. WFS return processing fees, prep charges and disposal/removal fees are not included.
