PayPal Fee Calculator

PayPal's commercial fee comes out of what you receive. Work it forwards — and backwards, so a $100 invoice really puts $100 in your account.

How it works

For a standard US commercial transaction (goods & services / invoicing):

Fee = 3.49% × amount + $0.49
You receive = amount − fee

The reverse direction solves the same equation for the amount to charge:

Charge = (target + $0.49) ÷ (1 − 0.0349)

If the buyer pays by credit/debit card through PayPal Checkout instead, the rate is 2.99% + $0.49 and the same formulas apply with those numbers — select the method above and every result updates.

The fixed $0.49 is why small payments lose a much bigger share: on $5.00 the fee is $0.66 — over 13%. Friends & family payments between US accounts are not commercial transactions and are not what this calculator models.

Frequently asked questions

What is PayPal's fee for goods and services in 2026?

PayPal's official US business pricing lists PayPal Checkout at 3.49% + $0.49 per transaction when the buyer pays with PayPal or Venmo, and 2.99% + $0.49 when the buyer pays by credit/debit card through PayPal Checkout. Figures verified Oct 2026 against paypal.com/us/business/fees.

How do I make sure I receive exactly $100?

Charge ($100 + $0.49) ÷ (1 − 0.0349) = $104.12. PayPal then takes $4.12, leaving exactly $100.00. Use the reverse field in this calculator for any target amount.

Why is the fee rate higher on small amounts?

The fixed $0.49 is the same on a $5 payment as on a $500 one, so it dominates small transactions. If you take many micro-payments, ask PayPal about micropayment pricing instead.

Are international PayPal fees included?

No. Cross-border transactions add a percentage surcharge and currency conversion adds more. This V1 calculator covers US domestic commercial transactions only.

How we calculate & limitations

Worked example: Charge $100.00 → fee $3.98 → you receive $96.02. To actually receive $100.00, charge $104.12.

Assumptions & limitations: PayPal Checkout rates from PayPal's official US business pricing page (3.49% + $0.49 for PayPal/Venmo; 2.99% + $0.49 for card payments). Expanded Checkout, Pay Later, cross-border surcharges, currency conversion and micropayment rates are not included — the international and micropayment schedules had not been verified from the official Merchant Fees appendix at build time.
