How it works

For most categories, eBay keeps a percentage of everything the buyer pays, plus a fixed per-order fee:

Total amount of the sale = item price + shipping & handling charged
Final value fee = category rate × total amount of the sale
Per-order fee = $0.30 if total ≤ $10.00, otherwise $0.40
Profit = total − fees − item cost − your shipping & packaging cost

The category dropdown uses the rates on eBay's official selling-fees page (13.6% for most categories, applied to the portion of the total up to $7,500 in V1 — the 2.35% rate on the portion above the threshold is not modelled). A few headline categories are carried in V1; check your exact category in the limitations note before pricing.

Frequently asked questions

How much does eBay charge in 2026?

For most categories the final value fee is 13.6% of the total amount of the sale (item price plus shipping charged), on the portion up to $7,500, plus a per-order fee of $0.30 on orders of $10.00 or less and $0.40 above that. Figures verified Oct 2026 against eBay's official selling-fees page.

Is the eBay fee charged on shipping too?

Yes. The final value fee is calculated on the total amount of the sale, which includes the shipping and handling you charge the buyer.

Are insertion/listing fees included?

Most sellers get a monthly allotment of free insertions, so V1 does not add an insertion fee. Store subscribers and high-volume sellers may pay differently, and promoted-listing ad fees are not included.

Does the category really change the fee?

Yes — eBay's rates vary by category and sometimes by price band within a category. This calculator carries the main verified categories in V1; the rate for your exact category is shown in eBay's official fee table and in Seller Hub.

How we calculate & limitations

Worked example: $49.99 item, free shipping charged, Most categories: final value fee $6.80 (13.6%), per-order fee $0.40. With $18.00 item cost and $7.30 shipping + packaging, profit is $17.49.

Assumptions & limitations: Category rates verified against eBay's official selling-fees page (non-Store base rates). The lower rate on the portion of a sale above each category's threshold (2.35% for most categories) is NOT modelled — on totals above the threshold this calculator overstates the percentage fee and therefore understates profit. Store subscriber rates, promoted listings, Below Standard surcharges, international fees and insertion fees beyond the free allotment (250/month) are not included.
